Do you need to use lubricants? When do you use lubricants? The answer to this question is simply you should use lubricants whenever there are simply not enough personal lubricants generated by a woman or the situation suggests there will not be any lubricants generated to minimize the friction and accompanying pain. Why would anyone want to use a sexual lubricant or personal lubricant to enhance their sexual experiences? Doesn't every women create enough lubricant to enjoy sex? Why do men need personal lubricants? What kind of lube is best for anal sex?
The answer to these and other questions about lubricants are presented to our staff online and in our retail store all the time. Personal or sexual lubricants can and do enhance couples and single persons sexual lives every single day but it generally is not something people like to talk about with just anyone, even their mates.
Many women, regardless of their age do not produce enough lubrication to make sex enjoyable and lubes can make their lives more enjoyable and less painful. Many men masturbate without ever thinking about applying a little lubricant that makes for more enjoyment. Don't even think of engaging in anal sex without the right lubricant!
So is there a right or wrong lubricant to use? Can't I just use vaseline or hand lotion? What if I have sensitive skin or tissues can I just use any lubricant? The answer to the question: Is there a right or a wrong lubricant to use is yes and not really. Yes there is a lubricant that is designed for specifically the body part and sexual function you are caring to do. Is there a wrong lubricant? Not really a wrong lubricant within reason but the answer is there is a preferable lubricant that you may agree is better for one use than the other. Sound confusing? Vaseline has a lot of uses and if you glop some on your hand, penis or vagina it will provide some lubrication for a short time. It is messy, will stain your sheets and unlike water based lubes is not designed for these uses. Will it work, well sort of but she or you may not particularly enjoy the experience.
The purpose of this article is to increase awareness of the lubricants available, their usage but not to shove a particular lubricant down your throat so to speak. Using the right lubricant for the job is ideal but some lubricant is better than none I suppose. Many lotions have perfumes and additives that are great on your hands, feet and maybe even face but they can irritate sensitive tissues in a woman's vagina, anus or on your penis. These perfumes are generally alcohol based so you will remember the time you used them as many areas of a woman's and man's body do not respond well to alcohol. So while it may work it also may hurt so it is best to use lubricants that don't irritate sensitive skin and tissue. What if your partner has sensitive skin? Try and avoid oil or silicone based lubes and use water based lubricants as they are less likely to attack the sensitive tissues on our bodies.
Water based lubricants are general use lubricants, they are the most popular and are generally safe for vaginal and masturbation purposes. They provide lubrication, a good amount of slipperyness which is what lubrication is about, generally don't irritate sensitive skin and are reasonably priced. Water based lubes usually don't stain sheets and clothing so that is a benefit. Ask for a water based lubricant and you are likely not going to encounter anything but fun and enjoyment.
The water based lubricant is one that men and women generally find the most useful for most sexual applications. When dealing with sexual intercourse or masturbation a great deal of what occurs is due to friction between body parts. Perhaps you have never really thought of it as friction but after thinking about it you will agree there is a good deal of friction going on.
Oil based lubricants and silicone based lubricants are another category of lubricants that are available and have a specific value in sexual enjoyment. These lubes are especially valuable for anal sex play as they provide a high degree of lubrication and slipperiness which anal sex demands. When I say that anal sex requires lubrication that is entirely up to the receiver or as he or she is referred to as the catcher. The pitcher may or may not require lubrication but it isn't their call. Known for its slippery nature the oil or silicone based lubricants are favored by anal sex lovers and no wonder why. You may want to look for anal lubricants that contain a pain reliever or tushy tamer for even more enjoyable anal sex. The active ingredient in these pain relieving lubricants is similar to benzocaine which is used in baby teething creams and it really does work for temporary relief of pain in a topical cream. You may want to experiment with these lubricants as applying too much may cause the anus to be pain free but this will also apply to the penis which may be an unforeseen consequence of application of the pain relieving lube.
Flavored lubricants are a variety of lubricants that come in flavors from cherry to banana and mint or even apple. The variety of flavors is large as it the popularity of these flavored lubes that are good tasting and still provide the same water based lubrication you require. There are flavored anal lubricants for anyone interested in that area that I don't quite understand but variety is still the spice of life as they say.
Some lubricants are marketed specifically as male lubricants and outside the anal sex lubes that are marketed to the gay community male lubes are not much more than a gimmick. What works for a woman works for a man for the most part and vice versa. I haven't seen lubricants made for a woman but that is probably due to the fact that I am not paying enough attention. Some lubricants are sold as female friendly as they don't irritate sensitive tissue but again these are just as valuable for men with sensitive skin.
Lubricants should always be used with sex toys, particularly vibrators and anal toys. Since most sex toys are made of plastic and are often painted they will not produce and lubrication. It is particularly important to wash all the lubricant off as soon as the situation allows as some lubricants can damage or destroy sex toys when allowed to remain on the toy for a period of time.
Lubricants come in many sizes from the trial size to as much as 16 fl. ounces. When trying a lubricant for the first time I suggest you get a free sample or the smallest size available to try before buying the family size. Many customer have preferences and when you think about it lubricants are one of the most important sex toy products you can buy.
